Kitchen Lights

In 2011 we switched out the kitchen lights. The blog is here.

I was pretty happy with these lights at first. But these light bulbs are expensive and hot.

We we replaced them again.

Renaissance Fair

We went to the Renaissance Fair.

This guy told me, "Hey, my eyes are up here."

We took my sister Steph and she met up with her friend and the friend's boyfriend.

We checked out the vendors, watched a glass blowing demonstration, grabbed some lunch, and then went to find the mermaid exhibit.

The line to the exhibit was 45 minutes long. We kind of stood there, debating if it was worth it, and were approached by a guy who had been bellowing that his show was about to start. He asked if we were hesitating because of the long line. I said yes. He responded: You know what you have to do? You have to go in through the exit.

I went in through the exit. It was kind of thrilling because I'm usually a rule follower. All I saw was a curtain and a woman sitting in a chair with a mermaid tail and taking photos with kids. I would have been pissed to stand in line for 45 minutes. So I came back out and found J.

The same guy found us again and asked what I thought. I told him. He said there was a tank. I told him I didn't see a tank. He asked if I saw the curtain. He then said they were switching out the mermaids, they had to keep them fresh. They found one belly up this morning.

So I went back in. It was harder to work up the courage a second time but it was worth it because the curtain was drawn back and I could see the mermaid swimming.

Then, because the guy had helped out and was funny, we went to his show. He is Gypsy Geoff and he is a juggler and a comedian. My eyes hurt after the show I was laughing and smiling so much.

The kids were so funny too. Geoff was really great at improv.

Oh it was a fun day.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day I had a pretty busy day at work. I have a friend who works from home a lot, but on days he's going to come in he texts me to see if I want to go to lunch. So when he texted me about lunch, I totally forgot it was Valentine's Day and I should probably be spending it with my hubby.

Tuesday morning Shawn wasn't at work so I texted him. He told me he had a doctor's appointment and would be in before lunch.

I got an instant message from security at 11:45 that J was at the gate. He brought me beautiful flowers. I may have cried a bit. I told him I had lunch plans with Shawn. He smiled and said no I didn't, he had set it up to make sure I was free and didn't have a meeting. Shawn never even came into the office.

Best. Surprise. Ever.

It almost made me wonder if J had done something naughty.

Our friend Adam and his business partner Bo have a flower/wedding business and they hooked him up with this gorgeous arrangement. Designs By Zima. Recommended.

We went to my favorite, In-n-out.

And then for dinner he made me crepes.

Valentine's Day is Osa's birthday. My baby is three. She loves gnawing on pots and i love that this one says Ready Set Grow.

It was a good Valentine's Day. J did good. He did real good.

Covering Boxspring with Fabric

This weekend was crazy. We pulled weeds, took a friend who just had a baby dinner, picked up compost, shoveled out compost, met a friend for brunch, pulled more weeds, did a Pinterest project I've been wanting to do forever, cleaned the house, pulled more weeds, trimmed the rose bushes, planted a bush and a few plants, pulled more weeds, tried to smoke out the gophers that have found their way into our yard (still waiting to see if it was successful), went out Saturday night, worked on a baby blanket for a friend's baby shower, went to a Super Bowl party....

My Pinterest project has been on my list for awhile now and it's just now happening.

I've had a bedskirt covering my boxspring but it keeps coming untucked and it just wasn't working. I saw on Pinterest that people were stapling fabric to their box springs when it shows and I thought that was a pretty good idea.

So I measured, and bought myself some fabric.

Here is the before:

I thought about cleaning everything and making it look pristine, but this is real life.

We took everything off the bed so we could get to the box spring. My original plan had been to cut the fabric into strips and staple the fabric to the top and bottom. It was a surprise when I realized the bottom has wood, but the top is completely metal springs and I wouldn't be able to staple anything to the top. I briefly considered sewing it but really did not want to do that. Luckily, I had enough fabric that we were able to come to a plan B.

We just covered the entire top with fabric and stapled it to the bottom. I agonized over the fabric choice. I wasn't planning on going with a pattern, but I really loved this and figured I would just do it.

J helped me with the corners.

It didn't take too long.

I'm really happy with the box spring. It's nice not having the bunched up bed skirt anymore.

The next thing I want to do is re-upholster the headboard but the fabric I bought looks purple in my room. I guess my lighting is off. I will not be using the fabric, so now I need to hunt down some that will work. We got some samples from Hobby Lobby but I don't love either of them.

I understand why people hire decorators because this is a big decision and I really don't want to be responsible for it.

I'm trying to pinpoint when I got so old. I look back on my posts years ago and look at all the crazy things I accomplished on the weekends. I am tired. I don't remember being this tired.
