The House Renovation

Our house is repair is done. Here is the blog about the car hitting our house. Now let's look at some pictures.

First, the destruction.

The emergency board-up.

One of the creepy-crawly visitors.

Trash and debris everywhere.

New framing.

 Waiting for a new window.

Outside view.

New column.

Wood rot that delayed the stucco guy a week.

New window.

Some drywall.

Finally some stucco.

This was about the time that I found out I would be getting new flooring (can I get a woot woot!) so I started tearing up the tile in the kitchen (post here) and shopping for a new, prettier wood floor.

And I started looking at the things I wasn't going to miss. Things that had bugged me.

Like the gaps in my wood floors. J and I had fixed this once (post here) but other pieces were separating, and in other parts of the house, so it was a losing battle.

Or this horrible piece of baseboard. What is going on here?

And since the tile was going to be removed, that horrible divider (which was broken in two places) was also going.

There were also parts of my house that we had missed painting, so when they painted the inside, all of those areas were addressed. It was fabulous. All my dreams come true.

Granted, it wasn't all good news. When they removed the flooring, they had to move everything I own. EVERYTHING. So the house was in shambles. Plus we didn't have a floor for a month (more delays) so I couldn't walk in my house without shoes. When I woke up in the morning, the first thing I did was turn off my alarm and the second thing was grope around on the floor for my shoes. I am not a morning person and I don't wear shoes in the house, so it wasn't fun.

The mess was really getting to me. I'm not a neat freak but I am tidy.

There were chunks of concrete that had to be patched when we removed the tile.

There was a problem with the baseboard guy, so there was another delay.

But now that everything is done done DONE, doesn't it look amazing?

Up on that shelf area is where we hadn't painted and it was a bit yellow. It didn't bother me enough to do anything about it (J and I really hate painting) but now that it's freshly done, it just looks amazing.

And I love the new baseboards.

I am very happy with everything. They were done Tuesday, and the only issue was that we had something going on every day this week so we just finished putting everything back and cleaning (every single thing had to be wiped down, there was so much construction dust) this Saturday. It took two months, but it was worth it. And my house is cleaner than it has been in years.

We were walking our dog through the neighborhood, and we passed the neighbor who hit our house. J said we should send him a Christmas card. Because of him, we have a new paint, floors, and baseboards.

It was perfect timing - we had saved up enough to buy our new oven/microwave. So we went from nasty, crusty old this:

To beautiful, sleek new this:

I am ready for Christmas.
